A one day, 4-person team competition
MMFF with Beginner/Intermediate (B/I) and Rx divisions
Saturday, August 13th, 2022
8am – 1:30pm w/ All you can eat Taco Truck party until 3pm

In the military the smallest unit is the fire team – a 4-person unit. On occasion, such as with a sniper pair or swim pair, special forces units will even deploy in pairs. But in either case, always operating as part of a greater effort. FTX stands for Final Training eXercise, which in the military are field tests to see if a unit is ready for deployment or Mission Ready. In that spirit, FTX CrossFit is holding its 7th FireTeam Competition and Fundraiser on Saturday, August 13th for 4 person FireTeams (MMFF). Come together as a community for a greater cause to help soldiers and their families that have suffered injuries or other hardship serving our country and see if your FireTeam is Mission Ready. Part of the proceeds will go to the SEAL Legacy Foundation.
Thank you to our sponsors for supporting the SEAL Legacy Foundation
Format of Competition
All FireTeams are MMFF – Each Fire Team will consist of 2 males and 2 females. There will be two divisions: Rx and Beg/Int. We are limiting the event to only 10 teams per division. This allows for an on-time schedule and plenty of space for athletes, judges and spectators.
This competition is designed so that everyone should be able to find a team and be able to compete. Everyone has strengths and weaknesses. In this competition, teams will be able to effectively compete regardless of skill level or experience. Just do it and have fun!
There will be 3 main WODs on the day of the competition.
Judges: All are L1 Certified! Judges get $50 for day, all you can eat Taco Truck party (BYOB), goodie bag (1 FitAid, 1 Protein Bar, 2 Water Bottles), and a shirt. This results in a well-run and professionally managed event!
Volunteers: All you can eat Taco Truck party (BYOB), goodie bag (1 FitAid, 1 Protein Bar, 2 Water Bottles), and a shirt.
Team Entry Fee: $400 for 4 person FireTeam (must register by 7/16 to get shirts) Fee covers competition, goodie bag (1 FitAid, 1 Protein Bar, 2 Water Bottles), shirt, and all you can eat Taco Truck party (BYOB)! No refunds for cancellations. Parking is free. We guarantee that we will be done with competition by 2:00 pm or money back (conditions apply – see fine print at end)

Workouts
WOD #1 “Bounding Overwatch”
10:00 AMRAP
20 Alt. 20” Step-ups w/ DB (any hold allowed) B/I 40/25# [Rx 55/40#]
10 Synchro Alt. Hang DB Snatches 40/25# [55/40#]
10’ Suitcase Carry w/ DB 40/25# [55/40#]
Each team will form two M/F pairs. These M/F pairs will alternate doing rounds.
Once the WOD starts, DBs may never be set down. You must hold on to them for the whole round and then pass off to the next pair. If a DB is set down, then the whole team must do 3 synchro burpees before picking DBs back up.
Score = Rounds + Reps (Suitcase Carry = 1 rep)
Movement Standards (See video here):
Step-ups – Athletes start with both feet on floor in front of box holding the weight as desired, but athletes must have full control of weight by either having one hand fully grasping handle or using two hands one on each DB head. While doing step-ups, the DB may not rest on hips or thighs at any point in time. Step-up is concluded with athlete standing with both feet on box and attaining full hip and knee extension. As soon as one athlete starts to step off box, the other athlete pair may start to their step-up. Athletes will alternate doing step-ups until 20 reps are completed.
Synchro Alt. Hang DB Snatches – Athletes may face each other or stand side-by-side. The rep for both athletes starts with the DB in the hang position (above knees and below hips) and from there is snatched in one continuous motion to the full extended position with DB fully extended by one arm above head with elbow locked out and hips/knees in full extension. DB at the top must clearly be above head/shoulders and in line with the body. The synchro is judged at the top. From there athletes can immediately cycle into the next rep where they must switch hands anywhere on the decent back to the hang position. Athletes do not need to synchro in the hang position of the snatch, only at the top.
Suitcase carry – Basically at the conclusion of the snatches, athletes will just carry DB at their sides and hand them off to the other pair waiting to then perform a round of this AMRAP. At no time during this WOD may the DB be set down. Otherwise the whole team, including pair resting, must do 3 synchro burpees before continuing. The synchro is at the bottom of the burpee.

WOD #2 “Move it”
12:00 AMRAP
Move cinder blocks between stations 25’ B/I – Ea. Person carry 1 block at a time [Rx – May carry 2 at a time]
200m Run B/I – EOMOM 2 team members go [Rx – EMOM] Starting at 0:00
Score = # of cinder blocks moved
All 4 athletes may move cinder blocks while not running. Every other minute on the minute for Beginner/Intermediate and every minute for Rx, teams must send out two runners. Each time runners go out it must be a different combination. In other words, the same two runners can not run twice in a row, but one of them could be the same. Yes, this theoretically could have one athlete run every time and one athlete never run. When it is time to run, teams will send out their two athletes for the run, if those athletes are carrying cinder blocks they have to set them down wherever they are and go run. The remaining athletes can pick-up those cinder blocks and move them to the designated pallets if desired.
If a cinder block is broken, the broken cinder block must be set aside in designated areas, and a new cinder block must be retrieved from one of the extra piles.

WOD #3 “Conscription”
8:00 AMRAP
Consisting of 2 Stations. Teams will split into M/F pairs. One pair will be on one station, while the other pair will be on the other station. Pairs will switch stations every time a pair completes one round of Station A.
Station A
2 Alt. Rope Climbs 13’ [4 Alt. Rope Climbs 13’] *For a 3 synchro burpee penalty by both athletes, one partner may do the rope climb for the other person instead of alternating.
8 Synchro KB Goblet Squats 55/35# [Synchro Alt. Pistols]
Station B
M/F pairs will decide who does the bike and who does the rower. This can be changed each round as desired.
Bike for Cals
Row for Cals
Score for the AMRAP will be Reps of Station A completed + # of Cals (we’ll allow CALs to keep accumulating past 8:00 due to inertia and judges will note cals on bike or rower once they stop accumulating)
Then:
1 M/F pair will have 4:00 to get a MAX 1 Deadlift, 1 Hang Power Clean, 1 Hang Squat Clean Complex. Score will be the combined weight for the M/F pair. Doesn’t have to be the same M/F pair combination as in the AMRAP portion. The pair that is doing the HSPUs can help with setting up bars, collars, weights, etc.
The other M/F pair will rest 5:00 minutes and then do a 4:00 AMRAP of HSPUs (B/I will do HSPUs to two abmats stacked on top of each other). One athlete will go first for 2 minutes, and then the other one will go immediately at 2-minute mark. Score will be the combined # of reps.
The AMRAP will count as a full WOD for scoring purposes. The two 4:00 challenges are each worth ½ a WOD, but combined are equal to a WOD.
Movement Standards (See video here):
Biking and Rowing – Athletes may not touch the screens during the workout. Athletes will immediately stop at the 8:00 mark. Calories will be read by the judges once the inertia of the bike or rower has stopped moving the counter.
Rope Climbs – Athletes may jump up on to the rope. Top of the rope climb is done when athletes reach one hand to the I-Beam. They just need to touch the I-Beam. The decent needs to be controlled, and at least one hand must remain on the rope until the feet touch the ground. Athletes may NOT jump off the rope. Athletes will alternate doing rope climbs as indicated, but if a pair desires to have the same athlete do one or more rope climbs in a row, then for each time they do not alternate they have to do 3 synchro burpees before the next rope climb. (See standards for synchro burpees in WOD #1)
Synchro Goblet Squats – The “Goblet” or KB will be held by both hands directly under the chin. The KB may be grasped by the handles or the ball or any combination there of. The KB may not be rested on the shoulders. The synchro happens at the top. Athletes do not need to synchro at the bottom of the rep. They do need to wait for each other in the top position before proceeding into the next rep. Standard squat rules of depth at bottom and full extension at top apply.
Synchro Pistol Squats – The synchro is at the top. Athletes do not need to synchro at the bottom of the rep. Standard CrossFit pistol rules apply for the single-leg squat. (See 2022 Quarterfinals WOD #2 here for standards).
Once a pair completes the synchro squats, they go to the bike and rower and switch with the athletes there.
1 Deadlift, 1 Hang Power Clean, 1 Hang Squat Clean Complex – 1 male and 1 female of each team have to complete this complex. They don’t need to be the same combination of male/female as in the AMRAP portion. Only ONE of the athletes may lift at a time. Both athletes must be done by the 4:00 mark. All athletes of the team may help with setting up weights and changing weights. Athletes may make as many or as few attempts as they like within the time limit. The male and female athletes do not need to alternate lifts or make the same number of attempts. See our video here for complete guidance on how this complex is done.
Handstand Push-ups – They will be completed within a 40″ wide x 24″ deep box marked by tape. The arms must be fully extended and in line with the body before the athlete can descend. Each rep begins and ends with the athlete in the lockout position with the heels against the wall, arms fully extended,
and shoulders in line with the body. The hands must remain inside the designated box. If any part of the hand, including any part of the fingers, touches the tape line at any time, the repetition will not
count. The athlete will need to start again from the lockout position. At the bottom, the head must make contact with the ground (For B/I head must make contact with the stacked abmats). The feet do not need to remain in contact with the wall for the duration of the movement, but the feet must return to the wall at the beginning and end of each rep. At the lockout of each repetition, the feet may be no wider than the width of the hands. Kipping is allowed. Athletes may rest as many times as they like during the 2:00, i.e. fully come down out of HSPU position. One athlete will go first for 2:00 and then the other will go immediately after using the same station. Judges will continue the rep count and use a combined count as of the 4:00 as the score.

FAQs
Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
Yes. Must be at least 14 to compete. If you are under 18 make sure that you come with a parent/guardian or have your parent/guardian sign our online waiver. Contact us for an online waiver at events@ftxcrossfit.com.
What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?
We have plenty of free onsite parking. We are located at a major intersection – Gary Ave. and Geneva Rd. We have also reserved the parking lot of Gospel Life Church at N100 Gary Ave, Carol Stream, IL 60188. It is only 400 meters North of FTX CrossFit. Please only park in designated areas. We want to be good neighbors.

Can people come and watch? Can spectators come for free?
No. We encourage friends and family to come and cheer you on, but because we are providing all attendees a goodie-bag and the all you can eat Taco Truck party, there is a $20 per person cost.
What facilities do you have?
We have a 6,250+ sf state-of-the-art training facility with all the amenities. Free parking. A/C and Heat. Clean bathrooms w/ showers. Drinking fountains.
How can I contact the organizer with any questions?
Yes, write us at events@ftxcrossfit.com
Do your events run on time?
We strive hard to ensure a well-run event that goes according to our advertised schedule.
We guarantee that the competition will be done by 2pm or your money back. This does not include the Taco Truck party which will go past 2pm. Our guarantee does not cover for events or acts of God that are beyond our control (weather, power outages, etc.).
What’s the refund policy?
Due to the nature of this type of event, we can’t offer refunds. We allocate funds to things like prizes, staff, equipment and more based upon the number of registered athletes, and allowing refunds would make it impossible to plan, budget and run an event like this.
Is my registration fee or ticket transferrable?
We don’t allow refunds, but if you can’t make it then you can have someone else take your place. They do have to remain in the same division as you would have been. They also have to remain on the same team and still maintain an MMFF team.
Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn’t match the person who attends?
Yes, as long as the division and sex remains the same. All participants do have to sign waivers. Minors must have this done by a parent or legal guardian.
