Format
This event is ultra-Covid and schedule friendly. We are ultra-Covid friendly due to the size of our facility, limited attendance, extra spacing, 5 air filtration units, and enhanced cleaning protocols. The in-person schedule commitment is only 1 hour.
Two events will be submitted via video online, which will be scored as two workouts. Then two in-person events, which will be scored as 2 workouts each or 4 total. The total competition score will be comprised of 6 scores (2 scores for online video submissions and 4 scores for in-person events). Scoring is points per place, where lowest points is best, i.e. 1st place gets 1 point, 2nd place gets 2 points, etc. Tie breaker in case of equal points, will be the most 1st place finishes. If there is still a tie, then the combined scores on WODs #4A& 4B (Total reps from 4A + total lbs from 4B) will determine the winner. The video submissions must be completed by Saturday, January 23rd, 2021 at 11:00pm Central Time. The online WODs and their respective video submissions may be completed any time between registration and the deadline. Athletes are welcome to do the video workouts at our location during any of our regular hours. We also have equipment available to check-out for those that don’t have access to it otherwise.
For the in-person portion of the competition, athletes will have 20′ x 20′ stations assigned. All equipment in each station will be wiped down and disinfected after each hour. Judges will keep a 10’+ distance from athletes. No masks will be required for athletes, judges or spectators. Each hour will have up to 7 pairs (14 athletes) perform their workouts. Each pair may have 1 spectator/coach. This assumes that pairs and their respective spectator/coach are not social distancing from each other. A chair will be provided for spectators/coaches and will be by the respective athlete station.
Schedule
WODs 1 & 2 and the corresponding videos need to be performed and submitted prior to Saturday, January 23rd at 11pm CT. Videos are due at the same time for all levels and divisions.
WODs 3 & 4 will be done in person at FTX in a one hour window.
Beginner/Intermediate will compete in-person on Saturday, January 30th, and Rx will compete in-person on Saturday, February 6th at the following times.
11:00am – 12:00pm – MM
12:00pm – 1:00pm – MF
1:00pm – 2:00pm – FF
Note: Schedule is the same each Saturday, but take careful note that Beginner/Intermediate is on 1/30/21 and Rx is on 2/6/21.
Each hour will have the following schedule:

WODs
All athletes must wear proper workout attire for all workouts, which includes closed toe athletic shoes. Athletes may use gloves (or grips) and/or wt. belts on WODs where this option is indicated under “Equipment needed”. Gloves (or grips) may not be “tacky” or have anything that would hook, loop or attach in any manner onto any of the equipment used. Chalk may be used for any of the WODs as desired on the athlete’s hands or gloves only. It may not be applied directly to equipment. For the sake of hygiene (especially given Covid-19) athletes must provide their own chalk. During the in-person WODs, athletes will be provided a bucket for their chalk and should keep their chalk in the bucket. FTX will have liquid chalk for sale on the day of the competition for $15 per tube while supplies last.

Long WOD descriptions
Video WOD #1 – “Do you thrust me?”
For weight (max. lbs.):
3 Double-thrusters
WOD Description:
See video description here.
Equipment needed: Barbell + weights + collars (Optional: gloves and/or wt. belts.) Collars must be used.
This WOD is the same for all levels and divisions. Each athlete in the pair will perform this. Each athlete chooses their own weight for their attempt. The WOD is to perform 3 unbroken double-thrusters for max weight. Each double-thruster consists of a clean going into 2 consecutive thrusters. Bar must lowered to a touch and go of the ground after each set of 2 thrusters. This is repeated 3 times total. Each of the 3 cleans may be any combination of squat cleans going right into the thrusters or power cleans followed by the thrusters. A total of 6 thrusters will be performed.
The bar may not be “bounced” on the touch and go. Elbows should stay locked during the touch and go portion. Bar may not rest on ground during touch and go. No re-grip is allowed during touch and go.
Each double thruster starts from the ground, is cleaned, then followed by front squat whether from power clean position or straight into it via a squat clean. This is followed by a single continuous thrust of the bar into the fully locked-out overhead position. The bar is then returned to the front rack position. From there another front squat is performed, which immediately transitions to a single continuous thrust back up to the fully locked-out overhead position. The bar is then lowered back to the front rack position and then the ground, but athletes may bypass the front rack position as desired. Athletes may pause/”rest” the bar only in the following 2 positions:
- Standing front rack position after lowering from overhead. Do NOT rest, stop or pause on the upward part of the thruster which needs to be a single continuous motion from the bottom of the squat to the fully locked out overhead position. Also, do not rest, stop or pause the bar in the hang position as it is lowered to or raised from the ground.
- Standing front rack position after an athlete performs a power clean from the ground. If the athlete performed a squat clean, then by default there would be no resting in the front rack position. Note that hang power cleans or hang squat cleans are not allowed.
- Note: You can pause or hold the overhead locked out position as long as desired, but that isn’t a true “rest” position.
Score = Max. lbs. lifted by Athlete A + Max. lbs. lifted by Athlete B
Example: If Athlete A successfully completed the 3 unbroken double-thrusters with 95# and Athlete B successfully did it with 155#, then the score is 250.
Video Submission Rules
In an unedited* and uncut video, state name of athlete and team name prior to each athlete going. Show weight being lifted. Video should allow judges to clearly see the full range of motion of the 3 unbroken double-thrusters. The video should show both athlete’s performing this WOD. If they are done at separate times and separate locations, then pairs may “splice” the two videos into one single video. *This is the only editing that is permitted. Only submit video of the best attempt by each athlete.
Video WOD #2 – “Velcro Syncro”
8:00 Partner AMRAP
Beginner/Intermediate:
- 14 Syncro Leg-lifts
- 10 Syncro-burpees
- 8+8 Partner assist HSPUs
Rx:
- 14 Syncro V-ups
- 10 Syncro Burpees
- 8+8 HSPUs
WOD description:
Video description will be available 1/6/2021.
Equipment needed: Countdown clock + tape
Partners will perform the 8:00 AMRAP together. The leg-lifts (Beg/Int) and V-ups (Rx) will be done synchronized. On leg lifts feet should touch ground at bottom and go to or past 90 degrees (vertical/perpendicular to ground) at top. On leg lifts hands can be under glutes or flat on the ground to the side of the athlete. V-up reps should start with feet touching ground and hands touching ground above head. V-ups reps finish with hands touching toes at the top and where only body part touching ground are the gluteus muscles. Hands/arms need to reach over legs/knees to touch toes. Syncro burpees are standard burpees where chest and hips fully touch ground at the bottom of the rep. At the top of the rep the body should be fully extended, hands clapping or touching over the head, and with a little “air” under the feet”. Synchronization on all these movements needs to happen at the bottom of each of the movements.
The HSPUs for Rx are standard HSPUs against a wall and can be kipping or strict. For beginner/intermediate the HSPUs are against their partner, where the partner acts as the wall and holds partners ankles. Partner holding ankles needs to face their partner and can hold ankles anywhere from at arms length to tightly against shoulders/chest, but it must be one hand holding each ankle without crossing arms, i.e. no bear hugging for example. (Beg/Int be careful not to get kicked in this process! Watch our video for tips.) For the beginner/intermediate level the partner holding ankles may assist their partner by lifting at the ankles! Each partner will do 8 reps, which partner goes first each round is up to each pair. For all levels, prior to starting, a box that is 36 inches wide and 24 inches deep must be marked on the floor. Hands must remain inside box during the HSPUs with nothing touching or going outside of the boundary. Every repetition of the handstand push-up begins and ends at the top of a handstand with the arms fully locked out, with only the heels in contact with the wall for Rx and partner’s hands for beg/int, the hips open and the body in line with the arms. The feet must remain inside the width of the hands throughout the entire repetition.
At the bottom, the athlete’s head makes contact with the ground.
Score = Reps completed (Note: Each round = 40 reps = 14 + 10 + 8 + 8)
Video Submission Rules
In an unedited* and uncut video, state the team name at the beginning. Video should allow judges to clearly see the full range of motion of all 3 movements. The video should keep both athlete’s and the clock used in frame throughout. Only submit one video of the best attempt by each pair/team.
In-person WOD #3 – “Switch!!!”
10:00 Partner AMRAP
- A – One partner bikes for cals
While other partner completes – B:
- 20 Wtd. Step-ups 20″ w/ KB – Beg/Int = 35# [Rx = 55#]
- 20 Slam Balls – Beg/Int = 16# [Rx = 20#]
Partners alternate as desired between biking and completing reps.
Video description will be available on Saturday, 1/16/21.
Equipment needed: Assault Bike Classic, 20″ Box, KB and Slam Ball. Clock set to a 10:00 countdown. (Optional: Gloves)
WOD 3A is biking for calories.
For the bike, the screen/monitor will be zeroed out and checked by a judge prior to WOD starting. Athletes may not touch monitor after this. Once the time has stopped, the judge will allow bike to continue spinning. Judge will record number of calories (rounding down to nearest whole calorie) biked once the bike’s flywheel has come to a stop. Pairs/teams will start with an athlete standing next to or behind bike. Pairs/teams are responsible for all seat adjustments, and may adjust seat at any time before and during the WOD. Once clock starts, the first athlete biking may get on the bike. Athletes will then alternate as desired during the WOD. When clock reaches 0:00 athletes will immediately stop pedaling.
WOD 3B is performing max rounds and reps for the 2 movements.
The step-ups will be performed on a 20″ box while holding a KB of the indicated weight. The height of the box is the same regardless of division, male or female. The KB may be held in any position as long as it doesn’t rest on any portion of the legs/thighs during the step-up. Each step-up rep begins with both feet on the ground, and ends with the athlete standing at the top of the box with hips and knees fully extended. Athletes may alternate legs as desired.
Rx regardless of male/female uses a 20# ball. Beg/Int regardless of male/female uses a 16# ball. Each slam ball rep starts with the ball on the ground and finishes with the athletes’ hips and knees fully extended/locked-out and the ball overhead. The arms do not need to be fully extended/locked-out, but the ball has to clearly be over the head and in-line with center of mass. The ball is then dropped/”slammed” to the ground. As the ball is returned to the ground, the athlete must fully let go of the ball. The ball may be caught on “the bounce” at the bottom of each rep.
Athletes may alternate between biking and performing reps as desired.
Score = Two separate scores A = Cals on bike, and B = Total Reps. This counts as two WODs.
In-person WOD #4 – “Go! Go! Go! Lift!”
A – 8:00 Partner AMRAP
Partners alternate going through the following relay:
- Beg/Int = 1 Rope Climb or 10 Burpees [Rx = 1 Legless or 3 Regular Rope Climbs]
- Deadlifting Beg/Int = 1,350 total lbs [Rx = 2,700 total lbs]
- 10 RKBS Beg/Int = 55/35# [Rx = 70/55#]
THEN
B- 4:00 to for each partner to perform 3 hang cleans for max. wt.
Video description will be available on Saturday, 1/16/21.
Equipment needed: 13′ Rope, Barbell with weights and collars, and KB. (Optional: Gloves and/or wt. belts.)
WOD A is an 8:00 AMRAP where athletes will alternate going through the indicated relay.
The rope climb or legless rope climb is 13′. The rep is counted when athletes touch I-Beam to which ropes are attached. Fingers must clearly pass above the bottom of the “I” of the steal beam. Athletes may jump up to grab the rope for both regular and legless. For the legless rope climb the feet may not hook or clamp onto the rope until athlete are within reach of I-Beam. Once within reach, athlete may clamp or hook feet on rope and then touch the I-Beam. On the legless rope climb, if the athlete clamps or hooks feet and then fails to reach I-Beam, the rope climb will not be counted and they will have to repeat the climb. All rope climb descents must be controlled, and at least one hand must be kept on the rope until both feet touch the ground. For the legless rope climb, athletes may clamp or hook feet on the rope for the descent. No jumping off of ropes!
For the deadlifts, athletes must lift at least the total weight indicated. This is a total weight that can be spread across multiple reps. Therefore, pairs decide how much weight to place on the bar. For example, on Beg/Int a total of 1,350 lbs must be lifted. If 135 lbs. are on the bar (incl. bar wt.), then 10 reps must be performed for a total of 1,350 lbs. If 95 lbs. are on the bar (incl. bar wt.), then 15 reps would have be performed even though this would exceed the wt. requirement. 95 x 15 = 1,425 and is greater than 1,350, but 95 x 14 = 1,330 and would not meet the requirement. Pairs need to select one weight for the entire WOD, which both athletes will use throughout the WOD. This is true even for the MF divisions. Pairs will load the bar in advance of the WOD starting. Each pair will be provided a 45# and a 35# bar. Pairs will decide which bar to use for WOD, and factor in wt. of bar accordingly. The movement standards for the deadlifts are normal CrossFit standards.
The Russian Kettle Bell Swings need to reach an eye level height at the top of each swing. A rep is counted once KB reaches top position on each swing. Athlete’s may not drop KBs. They must be set down on ground in a controlled manner. If a KB is dropped, even if it is by accident, the athlete must start over on the RKBS reps.
Athlete’s will alternate going through the relay. The next athlete begins their relay as soon as the KB is set down in a controlled manner after the final RKBS.
Score for WOD 4A is total reps completed between both athletes. Score details:
- For Beg/Int each rope climb = 1 rep. If 10 burpees are done instead, then 10 burpees count as 1 rep, and no partial credit is given for doing less burpees. For Rx each legless rope climb = 1 rep. If 3 regular rope climbs are done instead, they count as 1 rep, and not partial credit is given for doing less rope climbs.
- Each 135 lbs lifted for Beg/Int and each 270 lbs lifted for Rx counts as 1 rep for scoring purposes.
- 21 reps are possible per round.
Once WOD 4A is completed, pairs will have 4:00 for WOD 4B. WOD 4B requires each athlete to achieve a max wt. set of 3 hang cleans. Pairs are responsible for loading the weight, i.e. both athletes can help loading the bar. Collars must be used. Two bars will be provided to each pair: a 45# and a 35# bar. Any athlete may choose either bar, and both bars can be loaded. One of the bars will by default have been used for 4A. Pairs can attempt the lift as many times as desired within the 4:00. Each athlete does the actual lift independently. Each lift consists of deadlifting wt. to the hang position and then completing 3 cleans without allowing the wt. to go below the knees between reps. The cleans may be muscle, power or squat cleans. Each rep starts with the bar somewhere between knees and hips, and is completed with the athlete standing tall with knees and hips fully locked out, bar in the front rack position and elbows forward of the bar. Athlete’s hands may not come off the bar at any point during the 3 rep lift. Athlete’s may re-grip or adjust grip, but this cannot involve completely releasing the bar with either hand. Athlete’s may “rest” the bar between reps in the bottom hang position or the top front rack position. In the bottom hang position, the bar may be “rested” on the thighs. If a wt. belt is used, the bar may not rest on belt whatsoever. If the 4:00 time is over, and an athlete is in the middle of a set of cleans, they still may complete their attempt. An athlete must have at least gotten the bar off the ground before the 4:00 runs out.
Score for WOD 4B is the sum of the max wt. successfully lifted by each athlete, i.e. Athlete A 3 rep max wt. + Athlete B 3 rep max wt.

FAQs
What are your Covid-19 restrictions and safeguards?
This event will be run indoors. Each pair will be assigned a 20′ x 20′ station. Judges will remain 10′ away. Given the space available to us and the limited number of athletes per hour, we can ensure plenty of social distancing between teams, judges/volunteers and spectators. Masks are NOT required, and athletes are NOT required to wear a mask during a WOD. All equipment will be disinfected, and this includes the climbing ropes if used. We have polydacron ropes, and we can wipe those down between uses.
Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
Yes. Must be at least 14 to compete. If you are under 18 make sure that you come with a parent/guardian or have your parent/guardian sign our online waiver. Contact us for online waiver at events@ftxcrossfit.com.
What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?
We have plenty of free onsite parking. We are located at a major intersection – Gary Ave. and Geneva Rd.
Can people come and watch? Can spectators come for free?
Yes! We encourage you to bring a spectator or coach. To keep this event ultra-Covid friendly we are limiting this to one person per pair. The spectator can attend for free.
What facilities do you have?
We have a 6,250+ sf state-of-the-art training facility with all the amenities. Free parking. A/C and Heat. Clean bathrooms w/ showers. Drinking fountains. Plenty of storage, including lockers (bring your own lock if you want to lock up your belongings.)
How can I contact the organizer with any questions?
Yes, write us at events@ftxcrossfit.com
Do your events run on time?
We strive hard to ensure a well-run event that goes according to our advertised schedule.
What’s the refund policy?
Due to the nature of this type of event, we can’t offer refunds. We allocate funds to things like prizes, staff, equipment and more based upon the number of registered athletes, and allowing refunds would make it impossible to plan, budget and run an event like this.
Is my registration fee or ticket transferrable?
We don’t allow refunds, but if you can’t make it then you can have someone else take your place. Though generally they do have to remain in the same division as you would have been. We’ll try to accommodate requests for changes in division, but can’t guarantee it.
Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn’t match the person who attends?
Yes, as long as the division remains the same.
