CrossFit Open at FTX – Get ready for some friendly and fun competition as FTX celebrates and participates in the CrossFit Open! It starts on Thursday, February 24th and goes for 3 weeks.
We will be doing the WODs on Friday, Saturday and Sunday of each of the 3 weeks. On the 3 Sundays of the CrossFit Open we will be open from 2:30pm – 3:30pm to judge the Open WODs. If you are not doing the CrossFit Open, you can still come on Sunday and do Open Box. On Saturdays we will have an alternate WOD available in addition to the Open WOD of the week.
Register here for the CrossFit Open. You do not have to register for the Open to simply do the WODs at FTX. You do need to register for the CrossFit Open if you want to be judged. Please avoid doing the Open WODs on Mondays unless you really couldn’t do them Friday through Sunday, and then please avoid the busy classes. The CrossFit Open is a great time of camaraderie, challenging yourself, being a part of the worldwide CrossFit community and so much more. Join in on this amazing annual event that anyone can do.
Even if you are not officially signing up for the Open, you will have an opportunity to battle it out with your teammates to see which team will be the winner – Team Red, Team Black or Team Silver!
We will have signup sheets at FTX to join the competition. The coaches will assign each person to one of the three teams. We will have various challenges and games that the teams will complete throughout the three-week period (2/24-3/14) for excitement, rivalry, and bragging rights!
So, sign up for an Open T-Shirt to rep your team! (Your t-shirt color will reflect your team assignment.)
January Review
FTX members take challenges seriously! It was so much fun to see all the participation and hard work. In our January Challenge, there were over 120 PRs, over 60 extra cardio efforts (5k row/ski, 12k bike, or 100 burpees), over 47 Burn! classes and over 36 hours of extra skill or flexibility work completed! Awesome and well done!
56 people participated. There were 357 entries with 63 prizes given. Congratulations to all the winners – but you all won with extra fitness!
During January we’ve also seen a lot of new faces. To our new members – Welcome to FTX! To our existing members – Make sure you introduce yourselves and welcome the “newbies” and show them what makes FTX so great, i.e. you all!
Overview of our programming this week
As we go into February we are going include a bit of Open prep in anticipation of the CrossFit Open which starts Thursday February 24th. We will continue with some of the supersets, but we’re continuing with what we started last week having you do them after the WODs. We are throwing in plenty of dumbbell work as it will surely show up in the Open, but also because dumbbell work is excellent training on multiple levels. You don’t want to only use barbells for strength work. Part of continued hypertrophy is constantly challenging the muscles in new and varied ways. Here is our strength/skillwork lineup for the week.
Monday – SA DB High Pulls + SA DB Press
Wednesday – Lunges + Hip/Back Extensions
Thursday – Snatch and Snatch Balance
Friday – DB Bench Press + Skull Crushers
Each week until the Open we will revisit some prior Open WODs. This week we are doing 19.1 on Wednesday. We are preceding this on Tuesday with a no measure WOD so that you can come at 19.1 with plenty of energy. Monday’s WOD consists of a good dose of Thrusters and jump rope. We can pretty much guarantee that those movements will show up during this year’s Open. Thursday’s WOD will get you jumping and doing plenty of pull-ups. Friday is cardio combo at medium weight of legs and body wt. movements. Saturday will hit everything.
FTX Yoga – Unfortunately due to a lack of demand, we’ve cancelled Yoga for the month of February.

FTX Kids’ Classes – We have classes for 8-13 year-olds Tuesday through Friday at 4:30pm.
